  1. Privatization. Contracting out.
President Reagan got the ball rolling. And he made sure before he left office that he laid the groundwork which resulted in Federal and State hospitals shutting down.
Privatizing health care? No more doctors that make house calls. “Doc in a box” clinics like Care First and on line consulting. Baltimore’s health system was so screwed up that a Nigerian was selected to fix it? Come on. And now her replacement is someone who was there all along and was at other failed departments.
    Privatization.

  2. It appears that former Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Ihuoma Emenuga’s was terminated because of her involvement with a “non profit” health care provider called Chase Breton.
Apparently Blue Cross Blue Shield is “non profit”. Right? But you can invest in BCBS right?
I admit I don’t understand this. It looks like a shell game to me. Non profit?
Maybe the Baltimore City Inspector General’s probe into Dr. Emenuga’s activities can illuminate this. Was there a conflict of interest? Was a profit being made somewhere? Surprise surprise! Or what?
I remember a time when family doctors made house calls. And I know Baltimore County had health clinics. Not any more. Health insurance was always provided by employers but the “co pay” wouldn’t put you in the poor house. Even so a lot of people didn’t have health insurance. Back in 1948 President Truman said he would make affordable Health Insurance one of his top priorities if elected. It was shot down by the American Medical Association who called it socialized medicine. Things limped along until the 1980’s when President Reagan finished off any real government sponsored or supported health care with his privatization agenda. Contract everything out. The United States Public Health Service Hospitals were closed and Reagan withdrew funding for State and Federal Hospitals…
like Fort Howard, Rosewood, Springfield, Spring grove…
Meanwhile Americans were told they had the best health care in the world.
I think Dr. Emenuga may have been a last resort when Baltimore City (Mayor Scott?) hired her. Get somebody really new. Experience in Nigeria, Britain and the University of Maryland. Only one problem.
    Same old privatized health care.
    “Non profit”
And apparently she was somehow involved in… a profit?
    Like I said I don’t get it.
But apparently Baltimore City’s Inspector General does. Let’s wait and see.
