In the heart of community-building efforts lies the Louise D. and Morton J. Macks Jewish Connection Network‘s (The Network) Community Connector Program, serving as a beacon for individuals seeking a deeper connection to their Jewish heritage. This important program of The Network, part of The Associated‘s network of agencies, has not only fostered stronger ties within the Jewish community but has also become a catalyst for profound personal and communal transformations
At its core, the Community Connector Program focuses on creating meaningful connections within the Jewish community. Through personalized outreach and engagement, it has played a pivotal role in bringing together individuals from various walks of life, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.
Numerous individuals and families have experienced the program’s impact firsthand. Mica Fidler shares, “People say Baltimore is small, but I grew up here, and am so grateful for all the new people I have met at Connectors’ events since I moved back. They expose me to people with kids the same age I might never meet and give me so many small moments of community and Jewish connection between the big holiday gatherings. Connector events are thoughtfully timed, creatively conceived, intimate, and personal.”
These personal testimonials echo a common theme – the program’s ability to cater to diverse life stages. From young families navigating parenthood to retirees experiencing renewed purpose and activity together, the Community Connector Program has proven instrumental in providing support, understanding, and a genuine sense of community.
Tailoring its approach to different life stages and interests, the Connector program offers events, resources, and connections that address the specific needs of each group. From casserole baking parties for moms to gatherings for LGBTQ families, the program ensures that every individual feels seen, heard, and supported on their unique journey.
Integral to the program’s success are the passionate Connectors who dedicate themselves to fostering these connections.
Erica Hornstein, a former Connector, reflects on her experience, saying, “My husband and I both enjoy planning and hosting Jewish-infused gatherings, stemming from our respective young adult involvement in Hillel and Moishe House. After becoming parents, we wanted to continue to build community (and selfishly, make parent friends) by hosting events for and relationships among young families living in Baltimore City. The Connector program enabled us to do just that! Now, as we look forward to welcoming our second child, we are blessed to have a robust Jewish network of young families in Greater Hampden.”
KeSean Johnson, a current Connector, shares, “I chose to become a Connector, because I want to rid our community of othering and I want people to feel connected to the larger mischpacha (family/community)!”
Beyond individual stories, the impact of the Community Connector Program reverberates throughout the broader Jewish community. Connected individuals, inspired by their newfound sense of belonging, actively contribute to a stronger and more vibrant communal tapestry.
Becky Lantner, a program participant, shares, “I feel fortunate to have heard of the
Connector program because it has been a wonderful way to meet new friends in the area, especially since I recently moved.”
The Community Connector Program stands as a testament to the transformative power of purposeful connections within the Jewish community. As the Jewish Connection Network encourages individuals to embark on their own Jewish journey, discover the richness of meaningful relationships, support, and a shared heritage that awaits through its Community Connector program. In connecting, the community not only strengthens individuals’ roots but also collectively contributes to the flourishing continuity of a vibrant Jewish community.
