The city’s stretch of homicide-free days ended this afternoon, with the death of a yet-unidentified 22-year-old man in Belair-Edison.

Police said the killing happened at around 1:15 p.m. today in the 3800 block of Elmley Avenue. Suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, the victim was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with tips about the murder is asked to call police at (410) 396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP, or send a text message to (443) 902-4824.

Prior to the announcement from police, the city’s most recent fatal shooting had happened on Feb. 1, when Jerrell Brice, 27, was fatally shot outside the Douglass Homes complex in Dunbar-Broadway. The spell of zero killings since then—albeit, with a half-dozen non-fatal shootings recorded from Feb. 2-10—began with the third-ever Baltimore Ceasefire weekend.

Community mediator Erricka Bridgeford, one of the organizers of the Baltimore Ceasefire movement, posted the following statement on social media: “Someone has been murdered. Please pause. His life & light matter. Muster all the love & light you can and send it to his loved ones.”
